First time here in the forum but I have been using Flic for a couple of years now without any problems... but now I have run into an issue I cannot fix, so I hope some smart people here can help.

I just replaced the battery on one of my Flic buttons (not Flic 2) but I cannot get it working again in my Flic Hub.

The button is now just listed as passive in the Hub (not in the standby section).

It is listed as connected but being greyed out... and of course nothing happens from here when I push the button.

I have tried removing the battery and inserting it again but same thing happens.

I would hate having to reset the button since my settings contain meticulously built calls to webhooks (I guess a duplication/sharing feature in the app would be nice).

Do you have any ideas as to why this happens and how I fix it?

Also I should mention that I haven't moved the button or the hub, so it is the same distance as before the battery was replaced (where it worked fine for over a year).

It started to work by itself again suddenly. Not sure why, but buttons just work again for me.

kristian.finn

Reply to Button not working in hub after battery change on Sat, 21 Oct 2023 11:52:40 GMT

@Emil I managed to solve the issue.

But first let me add some extra info:
The button was blinking red twice from not having been in touch with the Hub since I replaced the battery 3 days ago and the button was now listed as disconnected in the Hub view in the app.

I then removed the battery, waited a bit and then inserted it again.

The button was still listed as disconnected. I then pushed the button and it gave a single red blink and now the button moved from the disconnected section to the connected section in the app.

However, each time I pressed the button nothing would register.
Normally the app displays that the button vibrates when it has been pressed - but this time nothing happened beside the initial registering of it being connected.

Before "nuking" the button I tried removing the power cord from the hub (waited 10 secs) and inserted it again - but this didn't change anything.

I then took a backup of the webhook-calls for the button and removed it entirely from the hub.

Then I selected "Add a Flic" and followed the procedure for adding a new button.

The button was found and now it was detecting the button was pressed by showing the vibration animation.

Then I added the webhook calls back into the button and now it works just as before.

So I guess the solution was to remove the connection/button in the hub for it to properly reinitialize after having changed the battery.

Of course this isn't meant to happen - but I guess it does in some instances.

In order to mitigate how big a problem this is, I have a development request:
Could you please add a backup function in the app, which stores the functions of the buttons and which you can give a name (default name would of course be the name of the button that you backed up).
Then you can restore a button (or copy to a new button) from such a backup. AND it is of course important it only stores the function/button press values and not the connection-data, since this is what we are trying to reset.

I have now 3 dead buttons from the very first batch some years back. They seem to get stuck somewhere. I imagine some electronics broke down and is now not able to restart after the shaky battery change. As an electronics engineer i always feel bad when replacing the battery as the connection is going on and off and on and off and on, until I finally have the flic attached again to its base. Maybe this is something the aged buttons don't like anymore?

Any recommendations on how to replace the battery in one go without the shaky connections inbetween?

In that case, it's not greyed out; it's just using white colour.
Have you tried reboot the Hub? (Let me know if that works)
