    • RE: Flic won't blink red when pressed

I'm having similar problems that are hard to pinpoint. I recently got a 4-pack of flic buttons. I started using the green one and the blue one. The green seems to be working, but the blue stopped working after just a few uses. It had run out of battery, even though it was brand new, so I took a batter from the black one and the blue one started working again, while the black one stopped. I take it the blue button just drained the battery. It did it again with the new battery. It only worked for a few days, during which I had only pressed it half a dozen times. I'll replace the batter once more with a brand new battery, but then I'm probably going to send the button back for service.

I also have a problem with my buttons showing as "out of range" on my phone, however when I press the green one, it does end up connecting and functioning, though often not on the first try. This is rather annoying. These buttons are supposed to add convenience and save me time, but in many instances they have actually wasted my time. Flic needs to work on reliability.

    • RE: Launch shortcut

@flic-3 Ha ha! Yes. That's an easier way. I didn't realize there was a flic plug-in for Tasker, so I had gone about this the longer way. Thank you.

    • Loading user data / Loading providers...

      Environment
I have the Huawei Nexus 6P with Android OS v. 7.1.2, which is the latest. This is the stock Android OS and gets updates straight from Google. It's not rooted. I have one flic button with all three actions/presses programmed. Two of them (single and double) are launching apps. The long press triggers the fart sound from the built-in flic options. The fart sound pretty much always works. The other two actions work intermittently. Both applications were created using Tasker app-building capability. Both of them simply launch a shortcut. I'm doing this because flic's built-in option to launch shortcuts is not working at all. That's my workaround. I posted about that separately.

      Problem
I single-click the flic button. Nothing happens. I repeat a few times. Nothing happens. Sometimes it works, but it's less than 50% effective, so it's annoying enough.

      Workaround
I open the flic app on my phone and, when the app loads, the button starts working as intended. Sometimes, when I load the flic app, I see the attached screen momentarily. It says "Loading user data / Loading providers..." 0_1500239693949_flic Screenshot_20170714-163122.png
It then continues to work for a while. I don't know how long. Eventually the problem comes back. This makes me think that some essential flic service unloads or terminates and that is the cause of my problem. Just to be clear, I do have the flic persistent notification in the notification tray. It's always there.

      Questions
Does anyone have this problem and a better solution or workaround? Can flic fix this or assist me with further troubleshooting, please?

    • RE: Launch shortcut

      I found a workaround.

Here's the background of my needs. I wanted to be able to start and stop my project timers with a simple click or a double-click of a button. I had generated shortcuts with Automagic that start and stop recording time in Gleeo Time Tracker. I won't get into how I did that, as it is a very specific use case, but the bottom line is that I needed to be able to execute those Android shortcuts using a flic button.

The trick is to create an application that will call your Android shortcut. Flic can't launch a shortcut, but it can launch an application.

      • In Tasker, create a new project and create just one task in that project. No need for profiles and it doesn't matter what you name the task.
      • In that task add a plug-in action: AutoShortcut and select your desired Android shortcut that you ultimately want to trigger with a flic button.
      • Export that project as an app.
      • Install that app. You have to enable installing from unknown sources in Android Settings. I recommend disabling that option immediately afterwards for security.
      • Tell flic to launch that newly installed app.

*Note: You will need some apps for this, and some of them are paid, so you might have to spend a few bucks. AutoInput is an extension of AutoApps and I paid $1.12. Automagic was $3.90, but you don't need it for this. Tasker is $2.99 as of today. The bottom line is that if you were willing to pay $35 for a button, you probably can afford another $5. Regardless of that, Flic should be providing this functionality, because there are non-technical users out there and Flic is marketing to them.

    • RE: Launch shortcut

This is a big problem. Having the option to launch my own shortcuts is essential. Without that feature, I am confined to the limited actions selected by flic, and cannot do anything custom. The whole point of flic is to automate and customize. That's why I bought the button. Not only should there be an option to launch an arbitrary shortcut. There should be options to integrate with Tasker, Automagic, and other popular automation systems. There should be an option to send and receive an Android intent as well. Please, prioritize development in this area. Thank you.
